We pulled up to the Treasure Lake Ski Lodge with the anticipation of a great night. I never like making predictions but I went on record to say that this was going to be a night to remember. And, the prediction proved to be true. You see, I personally love the Ski Lodge. It’s a home away from home. It’s a family business and we feel like we’re part of the family.
The second show was different than the first night in terms of set lists and vibe. The feel was a lot more loose. The band did more jamming and had a lot of fun with the crowd. I love the jamming. That unfamiliar guitar riffing that’s off the hook. Oh my God!!! Roberto was laying down some funky bass and Roger was grooving and grinning. A highlight was the double drum solo, when George Moore joined Roger on the kit. More cowbell!
The band played “Misery For Company” and “Wolf In The Henhouse” from Blues In Technicolor. It was a pleasant trip down memory lane. The band also played “Rebel Highway” and “Painted Horse” from the New Soul Cowboys era. At the end of Painted Horse, the band hit a little bit of Zep’s “Whole Lotta Love”. Another highlight was a cover of Hendrix’s “Spanish Castle Magic”. I love the fact that the boys are throwing in different material each night. It makes my career as “tour manager” much more enjoyable. It’s never the same show twice.
The Ski Lodge has a unique and interesting cast of characters that I look forward to seeing every time we play there. There’s Rockin’ Rod. I love him to death. He’s the man. Die hard. Always there. He was celebrating his birthday. He said he felt five years younger after listening to the music. Gregg the great race car driver was there representing properly. Mr. Tool, the road angel chauffer, showed up and helped the show go down proper. Superfan Patti got the crowd going with her hooting and hollering done with impeccable timing. Michelle came all the way from Rochester bringing the band some much needed Swiss Chocolate and good spirits. She reminded me that I know her. I reminded her that I don’t remember people’s names until I have had 10 handshakes or 5 hugs. Thanks for the 4 hugs Michelle!!! We had a lot of help loading out! Thanks to the Sicilian connection for lending a hand.
I would like to register a complaint against the bartender Mr. K for making those Long Island Ice Teas too good. After three I was breaking the rules of my personal code of professional conduct.
I would like to let Larry, Larry, Larry my personal assistant from Arkansas know that I had three applications from this show alone looking to take his spot. Get your lazy butt off the lazy-boy Larry. Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Over and Out.
Your Conductor,
Lothar Damsch
