WHY ME!?! B.B. KING and ANTHONY GOMES and little old me all hanging out backstage. That’s what I’m talking about. I know these are supposed to be AG Road Reports, but dammit this is about me. Larry, my assistant and Lazy boy model from Arkansas, says that we have a ticket that no else has. And tonight I cashed mine in. The thrill ain’t gone. The trill is strong. And the thrill will live on.
A sold out show of 2000+ people were there to see the King of the Blues. There were a lot of Gomes T-Shirts in the house, but most of the people had never heard of AG and the band. After Anthony’s 40 minute set the entire house was on their feet. This not an exaggeration. I knew the BB fans would “get it”. We welcomed them all into the family, especially the lovely Sarah. She helped us street team and handed out flyers during the show. Thank you Rhonda for making the introduction. Hell yeah!
Bloomington was well represented in the house. Poppa Shaun came from the Twin Cities and brought his Dad with him. A couple of people hadn’t seen Anthony in ten years because he hasn’t been in Madison for some time. I properly schooled in the art of roadtrips. Totally unacceptable to wait so long between shows. Get on the highway and set your GPS to “Bluesify”.
Frank, the guitar facemelter , was there from Oregon. Also, we had Chicago Joe on Security detail. It could be a good thing because some of these girls won’t let go after hugging. Ten second rule ladies. I’m only human.
A very special thanks to Don and Tom from Nitelite for inviting us to open for BB. He’s the reason Anthony plays the blues and it’s a dream come true to have this opportunity. OH YEAH!
BB King is 87 years old. So, when Anthony’s 87 like BB, how old will I be? Lemme see.. I’ll be 105 and going strong lugging amplifiers. Larry will be 147. I am happy to say that the blues lives on and will be in good hands.
We have an early 2 pm show at River Beach tomorrow. Tune in tomorrow kids.
Over and Out.
Your Conductor,
Lothar
