Hello Kids! For those of you who are older than me, hello Brothers and Sisters!
What a heavenly day it was in Gahanna, Ohio. Hell yeah! The birds, the warmth, the sun and the people were out. Though this was the “No Room For Larry Tour”, the family was there to pick up the slack. Thanks to Tony B. for the Indy pit stop!! And he came bearing gifts of bbq and chicken wings. Yes, we missed Larry “The Minister of Rock N Roll” Wortman but Jim and Cathy Carfield covered for him nicely. Thanks for the hard work guys!
Jim and Amy Smith helped us pass out flyers to festival crowd. Ohio Red was present making her magic (not mushrooms), bringing brownies (not that kind either) sweet smiles, and laughter. We just saw her last week, but it seemed like so long. Lisa was also in the house! The family keeps growing and the dance floor keeps getting more and more packed!
Ron and Chris See were in the house getting their dose of musical medicine. Also, thanks to DJ Dave Uhas, for helping us get our CDs to the merchandise booth. Speaking of the merchandise booth, I gotta give a shout to Herb aka Shorty. He’s one of the big wheels that make it happen in the Columbus Blues Alliance.
And, Ohhhhh the show! According to Cathy Carfield, it was the best sound EVER. And, at the merch booth ½ block away, I gotta agree! I like intimate acoustic settings like last week, but the full band with the big festival sound… you can’t go wrong. One of the highlights was the encore of Testify that had a new intro. They started with just vocals and singing “Hey Now Lord”. Anthony tells me it’s a new song idea that he’s been working on. It’s amazing whenever AG plays “Darkest Before The Dawn” in French the people swarm the merch booth to pick it up! They like it. French is my favorite language that I know nothing about. In fact, I’m trying to get my wife to learn it so we can have better communication.
The after party acoustic jam was at the “Bag Of Nails”. On the way there, I got pulled over for running a red light while not wearing a seatbelt. The officer that pulled me over was very cool. Instead of issuing a ticket, he was concerned for my safety and told me to, “be careful and please buckle up”. He let me know that he was moved by the music and is a supporter of the Gahanna Blues and Jazz Festival. I had to travel all the way to Ohio to meet a Cool Cop!!!
At the after party we had the honor of hearing a new tune that isn’t even completely written yet! So, bring it on!!! It was called “When Nowhere Is Home” and was awesome.
A very big shout out to our brother and fellow musician Sam Romagnoli!!! We appreciate all the help with backstage hospitality. For those of you who don’t know Sam, he played several shows with the band a couple of years back. Anthony told me to ask him about the story of the yellow shirt. Next time I will!
Many thanks to Bob Thomas for inviting us to perform at the Gahanna Blues and Jazz Festival. Bob went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed on and off stage. Thanks for the food, drinks and 100,000 watts of power. I am gonna try to convince him to follow the band on a roadtrip run with his RV. Yeah, yeah, yeah!! Good times were had by all!
In closing, I like Ohio. Every time we come here it’s been great! But look out St. Louis NEXT WEEK because it’s gonna be Larry and Lo! Larry just doesn’t know it yet.
Over and Out!
Your Conductor,
Lothar
