Hello Family! Hello St. Louis!
Thankfully, I am well accustomed to amazement & wonder when great stuff is happening all around me! Finally, the long wait for summer is over. It was sunny skies and beautiful weather for a Friday night concert in the Gateway city!
The BAND brought the summer heat to the stage. "Fly Away" with the Angelic Girls (Melva & Pinky) took the song over the clouds to the heavens, especially when they threw in Amazing Grace at the end of the number. As usual, there was no mercy from the stage, as they tore up the first set with great sound & the 'right on' light show! Roger and Roberto provided the Chicago groove that was thick and funky. The set ended with Circles and was just enough to, as they say, 'put a fork in me'. I am sooo done! Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Because of the killer third set I can't even get into the 2nd set. How about the awesome long version of "Better Than Back"?! And did I hear a 'nod' to AG's roots in the intro to Testify? Then we had guest vocalists, Tracy Smith and Larron Vaughn, at the end of the song to give everyone the maximum Soul Powered Pure Pleasure. Yes, St. Louis you deserve it! Starting the 3rd set with Lady Soul stopped me in my tracks! What a tune! Then a cool jam with Melvin Moore (Melva's future husband) on bass and RJ on the drums! They did a funky version of Blindog and then jammed "Blues Is Good"... just forget the fork 'cause they just finished me off, leaving me golden delicious, crispy, fried and SMOKIN'!
But back on earth it is always great to see Mama Jean and Brooke aka "Miss Heineken"!!!!! How sweet you girls are! Super road warrior Nashville Kathy showing up anywhere and everywhere! We deserve it! So cool to see you! Sweet Ischell properly harassing me...again! I really need to see a lawyer! But thanks anyway Ischell! Blues Farm Deb represented properly, as well as Jill & Deb, soon to be my neighbors in Fl. Good to see Tim Brewer 'in da house' as well as photographer extraordinaires Rhonda and Tony Smith! Jordan the "Graphic Design Yoda" was present. I almost didn't notice her because she was wearing leopard print camouflage. It was Hailey's birthday! Thanks for the cake. The pink hair is cool!!!
Thanks to Brad "Aerosmith's Biggest Fan" Fernandez for filling in for Larry! We also have to thank Mary from American Cleaners for coming all the way to South County! Speical thanks to Pete from Guitar Center for making sure Roberto's bass was in good working order for the show! We also had Holly in the house at here usual table. The High Priest of music, Rick was also present and ready to receive the rock! We love ya Rick! Pat and OJ Sexton, some of our favorite people, were also there early reserving 3 tables. Tony "Buttery Butch" Yancheck was in the front row! Thanks guys! It was also great to see George Potsos at the show. Next time, you have to get up and jam! Dallas, who's not from Texas, was there and is a great supporter of the band! Thanks to Lynnda for showing her support! And, Brian Contestabile too! We had Big Joe and Little Joe in charge of security. Laurie Benignus was there early! We had professional wrestler "The Gravedigger" present and ready to be bluesified.
We'd also like to thank Vern, Joe, Eli, Andrew and everyone at the House of Rock for making the band feel so welcome and at home!
Due to the WOW factor & self inflicted memory loss I am sorry if I neglected to properly mention anyone. I will blame my assistant Larry, because he was not present. He couldn't make the show because he was welcoming a new dog to his home. Pinky aka "Freedom Dog" now calls Mountain Home her home!
I gotta go but I wish I could wallow in my joy for a little longer!!! Oh Lo is me!!!
With pleasure. Over and Out.
Your Conductor,
Lothar
