Hello You All,
Sure good to be back on the road. I would have loved to give you a road report from Canada but they WON’T LET ME IN. It must be my accent. But fear not, my ten year probation is over in October. Hail, yeah!
It was a smooth ride up to the east coast with the anticipation of bringing it to ‘em! We pulled into the festival grounds awestruck by the beauty of the Atlantic coastline on a beautiful summer day. Lydia Warren and her band had the crowd going when we arrived. They sounded fantastic! Then Mr. Johnny Rawls, the soul blues king, had them groovin’. Our good buddy, Scott Sterling, was playing some hellified guitar with Johnny. What an awesome surprise to see him there.
And then it was time for the Medicine Man and his band of soul doctors. This was the second concert with new bassist Theo Harden. The boys were ready to play. Roger and Theo really clicked and were on fire. The band hit ‘Blues In Technicolor’ early on in the show and then moved straight into ‘One Last Time’. Off the hook! Room 414 was cooking and Anthony invited everybody back to the hotel for an after party in Room 414. He gave everyone the wrong room number but the correct hotel. Very dangerous!!! When the guys played ‘Voodoo Moon’ I think the spirits got to him. He destroyed that guitar. Whammy bars were flying and breaking, strings were busting. Now I have three days of maintenance on that damsch guitar. They hit ‘Fly Away’, ‘Darkest Before The Dawn’ and ‘Circles’. In a 60 minutes, the boys had 5 standing ovations from the crowd. Properly so and well deserved.
Paul ‘Jamin’ Benjamin knows how to run a festival. What a killer lineup. Thanks to the producers Paul, Robert Hastings and Gary Gorczyca for a job well done!!! Tommy Castro and Ana Popovic also put on excellent shows. We missed Gracie Curran and Mr. Nick’s sets but hear tremendous reports about their performances. Great musicians coming together for a beautiful day of the blues!
Paul’s stage crew was awesome! My good friend “Aaaaa… aaaaahh… aaaaa… AL Leo” was there. Missy, my road angel, really helped me keep my composure at the merch booth and backstage. Good ol’ Grandson Zach was doing some terrific street teaming in the crowd! I would like to thank new family Karen and Carol, for being so understanding in helping me remember them. I am sure Carol will there at the Time Out Pub to remind me who she is again. Superfans Ron and Lisa were properly represented. We can’t wait to see the big banner he has constructed! Really good to see the old family (not old age wise but they were with us BEFORE THE BEGINNING)! Larry G and Sue were present. Also, Ed and Adele. We were able to see them for lunch the next day and almost convinced them to come up to Rockland with us! So close…
Seeing as these guys aren’t used to going to bed before 3 am and they were used to being in Pacific Time, we went to Boston to catch Lydia Warren’s last set at Smokin’ Joe's. She invited the band to jam and everyone had a great time. We took the spirit of the festival to a blues club in Boston.
Next stop… Rockland… I mean BLUES LAND… Yeah, yeah, yeah, you got it!
Over and out,
Your Conductor,
Lothar
