The Road To Toronto! Over the border and through the woods to Anthony's hometown we gooooo....
Well we didn't take the long way home, but when we got to Anthony's hometown of Toronto - Fred, Theo and I were treated to a private tour of the city! It's a beautiful vibrant city, and with Anthony's colorful and humorous narrative, the good-time vibe was in the air.
Finishing the tour at Hugh's Room for load-in and sound check in high spirits, anticipating a kick-ass night!
Lovely Jen welcomed us cheerfully at the door and graciously reminded me that I know her well. Thanks Jen.
Up to the green room for not possibly the best but THE best salmon I have ever eaten!
I enjoyed watching Anthony's music 'Family' getting their Booty-Tang properly kicked! Meeting Anthony's cool brother Paul again after a few (2-8) years was right on. Thanks for bringing the lovely Tara with you!!!
I got to meet Bubba Dawg aka Phil Dawson, Anthony's first tour manager and just as I figured, awful good people! Thanks to Garret and Colin for their support! It was also fun meeting the French guy from Quebec as I understood not a word he said or got his name right, though he spelled it for me 4 times. I think it might be Sylvain??? Despite the language barrier, what we both understood was how it is so worth a 6 hr. drive to catch the best show around!
We also had Anthony's 7th grade English teacher, Diane Dewan, in the house. It doesn't get gooder than that (just teasing with the bad English). Also, some longtime family was present including Marc Belanger, Judi Wilrich, Janet Zophi, Lizane Yargeau, Lucie Dufault, Dan & Karen Kleist, Kim & Brian Maguire. Also in the house was the singer from Anthony's first rock band, Sean Jackson!!!
And of course having Anthony's father joining the road crew to complete the load-out is what it's all about! Thanks 'Dad'! Thanks for inviting your friends Carlos Sousa and Manuel Garcia!
Then it's over the border to the good ole U S of A! Smooth sailing to the Canal House, a blues hide-a-way in Tuscarwaras Ohio. The guys, still flying high from the kick-ass Toronto show, FRIED the lucky audience! The early bird 'Family' (Cheryl, Sharon, Chris, Ron and a few whose names I almost remember) were treated to an awesome sound-check as the guys fine tuned one of the 4 new tunes presented tonight!
Thanks to Jen & Leslie at the bar and especially Jane for keeping me balanced! A special thanks to Les on the soundboard ! Getting it Right!
I must mention the mind blowing solo Theo delivered on that 7 string bass which got a standing ovation soooo well deserved! Amazing and almost unbelievable music coming from 10 fingers and 7 strings!
And Fred spanking those skins like a red headed step child! Had one guy even air-drumming! Pardon my 1950's derogatory saying, for I love red heads...
Anthony's guitars were burning red hot as the guys SLAMMED it til the last note!
A new tune about homeless kids in America, unique & chilling got a standing O and rightfully so! Excellent tune and message!
Nice after party at the bar, a good night's rest at the fine hotel, and back to St. Louie with the perfect pit stop at Dairy Queen and then to Tony B's! Thanks Tony!
In closing let me say how blessed I feel to be associated with this KICKASS BAND and all the good folks they attract!
I got my seat belt buckled 'cause this rocket ship is taking off in full speed!
If you feel you deserve a special good time, get yourself to a show, and you can thank yourself then, and me later!!! Hail Yeayeayea !!!
