Ya, Ya, Ya finally here is the M2 Report for the AG acoustic show at Knuckleheads witnessed on April 25th, 2013 .. Lo was an absentee ballot for this special event so I am pinch hitting on his behalf
When I purchased my ticket for this very intimate living room session show I knew it would be like no other AG show I had ever attended over the years. This fact became very evident when I ran into Anthony during his ‘load in’ which consisted of him carrying one guitar case and a box of newly burned CD’s “Before the Beginning.” What a cool moment that was at my hometown Blues club. There were many long time AG Kansas City area fans in the crowd. As we all took our seats we waited with baited breath for AG to take the stage … the excitement began to cultivate! As Anthony took the stage it was evident he was there to give it all he had with this unfamiliar setting. He opened with a statement of “I am here to play for your requests as well as songs from the new CD.” Both Karla and I must have had looks of amazement on our faces because Anthony stated after the show that our eyes grew ‘wide’ with excitement. Hell yes excitement as this was a first for me. It didn’t take him long to start the show and he started with my all-time favorite AG song ever … “Rule the World.” I about started to cry; it was phenomenal. Thank you Anthony it’s about time! I overheard someone say “oh ya I love this song” and I was thinking hell yes I knew I wasn’t the only one! As the night progressed he took many requests “Wolf in the Henhouse, When the Right Women Does You Wrong, Somebody is Missing, Caroline, Amazing” and played many of the songs from the new CD - 7 out of the 12 I think. It was incredible to hear the inspirations of the lyrics of the songs and then have him perform them. It was our very own “Anthony Gomes Storytellers” moment. “Blues is Good” was inspired from a hometown country blues festivals tradition .. Hey, Hey, Hey the Blues is Good - hell ya don’t I know! I found myself singing along to this song on my way home from the show which was the whole intent of the song. The name of the song “Lady Soul” pretty much says it all as the lyrics were inspired by the one and only Aretha Franklin. “Love is Everything” well yes it is! Golden Wings was inspired out of the fire that occurred for Anthony on his way home from Chicago and everything changed in a blink of an eye .. this song drew me in because of its familiarity with song # 3 Darkest Before the Dawn. Many other great memories and moments but will leave you with this .. it was a “Beautiful Goodbye” a song dedicated to a family favorite for Anthony his Grandmother .. the lyrics were inspired by Anthony’s last conversation with his grandmother on the phone prior to her ascension to the higher being .. oh how I can relate to this experience and my beloved Grandmother. All in all a show that should be on everyone’s list to witness one day in their lifetime .. a show that rang oh so true to my “Before the Beginning” days of Anthony Gomes.
Love you AG!
