Road to Calabogie and Donnacona!!!
Wow, as the 'Silver Eagle' soars to a far far away land called Calabogie Peaks Ski Resort and Donnacona Quebec, Anthony Gomes, aka the million mile man chalks up another 2500 miles! No problem!
Ahhh, CANADA! They really like their 'Home Boy' here! It seemed like a welcoming party at the 3 minute border crossing. Then a short, eternal skip to the Calabogie Blues Fest.
They really got a cool thing going here. Ski slopes, and rolling hills for a backdrop, campers packed in for a good time with nature and some great music! The Anthony Gomes Band doing their share to bring the best music to the 'Mother Land'!
We were warmly welcomed as we landed, by Dawg FM, our host and sponsor, and treated as royalty! The cool evening with on and off drizzling rain was properly steamed up by the fire-storm coming from the stage! The die-hard blues fans with their umbrellas & plastic wrap, grooving and partying like there is no tomorrow! My kind of people!
Yes, my kind, Jen in the house! My designated 'Road Angel' for the Canada run, showering us with gifts of joy! The 'Fans From Chans' Mark and Cheryl, following the direct orders to get as much Anthony Gomes Band Medicine as possible! No over-dosing here! See you kids in Rhode Island on October 4th. Then a mind boggling after-jam we set sail to ever never land (homemade gibberish here)... To a farther farther away land called Donnacona, Quebec...
Yes! Donnacona, Blues Fest! Oui, merci!!! French! Hard-Core! Lets Repeat! Wow! I love the poetic French language, the life loving people and their passion for good times! Definitely MY KIND! Speaking of my kind...Super, Special Guest...Anthony's Mother, IN THE HOUSE! Celebrating her birthday with the best music around!... Thanks to her I guess!
And the most endearing about Mom Gomes is her leading the charge, with me, to change the old tradition of receiving gifts for our birthday! YesYesYes! The new Tradition of giving to those near and dear on our birthdays...Wow! We were so gifted, we were barely legal coming back to the States! Thanks MOM! And man, the Boys (Anthony, Fred and Theo) giving it up for the French Fan-A-Tics! Doing it right at the Fest and slamming the after-jam into 90 minutes of that ever never land I mentioned! Then... the Boss, requesting Circles...pumped and exhausted Anthony Fred and Theo CRANKED IT! Unbelievable! It's not even their birthday and they just keep on giving! Thanks Guys!
Then a short nap, starting at a time only Larry would still be standing! Ha! And off to the 3 minute welcome party at the good ole USA! Nice when the system works, and respects the artists passing through. Thanks System! Yeah! yea! yeah!
